Dr.
S. R. Ranganathan’s five
laws of Library Science
According to Dr. S. R.
Ranganathan, there are five
laws of Library Science.
They are as follows:
1. Books are for use.
2. Every reader his or her
book.
3. Every book has its
reader.
4. Save the time of the
reader.
5. Library is the growing
organism.
We strictly follow all the
five laws of Dr. S. R.
Ranganathan all the time in
the Library. |

COLLECTION HIGHLIGHTS |

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru,
College of Social Work,
Amalner library is rapidly
building up as one of the
professional libraries among
the entire social work
colleges library. All
bibliographic details of
books, magazines, journals,
back volumes, competitive
exam books, dissertations
are accessible through the
library network.
Our college library is very
near to the entrance gate of
the college.Library area is
around 108.5 sq.mtr. College
library having large
collection of books, a
variety of journals,
magazines and periodicals.
Our college library is
partially automated from the
academic year 2010-2011. The
library is partially
computerized and is well
equipped with necessary
facilities and resources in
the forms of books, printed
journals, project report
etc.
Presently the library has
8175 books and it subscribes
to 25 magazines and 6
national level refereed
social work journals. The
library also subscribes 10
daily newspapers. |

INFRASTRUCTURE
The library is situated in
the area of almost 108.5
Sq.Mtr. The library is
divided in two parts having
equal area. One room is used
as a stack room while other
is used as a reading room.
Presently the library
reading room capacity is of
24 seats,. The stack room
haves 37 new steel cupboards
and 5 wooden racks to
accommodate the books.
Library has one computer for
carrying out library
automation and other daily
routine works. |

ARRANGEMENT OF BOOKS
The library has classified
its books according to the
internationally recognized
Dewey’s Decimal
Classification and arranged
on a shelves by subjects.

The library and computer
advisory committee has been
formulated to decide
policies and guidelines for
the smooth functioning of
library activities. It has 7
members presided by the
Principal of this college
and Librarian as its

AUTOMATION AND NETWORKING
STATUS
Considering the importance
of computerization in the
library, the library has
purchased library software
from Pollen Grain Company
named LIBRARY MANAGER. The
preparation of database of
books is complete. In coming
days the library will be
implementing a bar code
technology for books. The
use of technology will save
the time of all.
One small printer is
installed to make hard
copies. We also have
installed 4 CCTV cameras for
vigilance.

ELIGIBILITY FOR
MEMBERSHIP OF THE LIBRARY
1. A bonafide student of the
college
2. All teaching and
non-teaching staff
3. The students who fail and
do not get admission in the
next year are not eligible
for membership.
4. All membership of
students will be valid for
that academic year only.
5. Temporary membership may
be obtained with the prior
permission of the Principal/
Librarian.
6. Library deposits will be
returned only when the
students complete or
discontinue his or her
studies. The deposits will
be refunded by the
administrative office within
prescribed time and if not
withdrawn will be forfeited.
Library is not responsible
in any way.
IDENTITY CARDS
Students of this college are
requested to fill the
prescribed I-Card form
available in the
office/library. Submit the
duly filled form with photo
and attach a copy of library
deposit receipt. The I-Card
duly signed by the Principal
and Librarian will be given
to the students. |

LIBRARY RULES &
REGULATIONS / CODE
OF CONDUCT OF
LIBRARY |

On submission of
admission
receipt to the
library
personals,
library account
will be opened
for one year
only and library
no. will be
allotted
immediately.
-
Student must
have their
identity card
with them in the
library, and
should present
whenever asked
to them in the
library.
-
The Students
should put their
sacks/ books &
notebooks/
belongings/
purse, at the
counter while
entering in to
the Stack Room.
-
Each student
will get two
books for ten
days on their
library account
number.
-
On request in
emergency,
librarian has
right to give
two additional
books on special
demand for ten
days only.
-
Penalty fine
charged for
books returned
after 10 days
shall be Rs. 1
per book per
day.
-
If a Book is
lost, a student
should have to
pay the books
price of the
same book and
should pay the
fine also.
-
Reference
material should
not be taken
outside the
Library.
-
Register your
name and sign
into visitors
register with
reason on
entering into
the reading room
of the library.
-
General
Knowledge Books
and Periodicals/
magazines & /
Journals and
Encyclopedias
are issued in
the Reading Room
only.
-
No other person
/ student are
allowed to take
books on
students account
but anyone can
return the books
on students
account.
-
Silence shall be
strictly
maintained in
the Library.
-
Use of mobile
phones/ tobacco
products is
strictly
prohibited in
the library.

Every
member should sign
in and sign out the
visitors register,
while entering and
leaving the library.
15.
Borrower should not
write anything on
the book or spoil
the books in any
manner.

Return the books in

CONDITIONS OF LOAN
1. Students and staff will
be issued 2 and 5 books
respectively.
2. Students should return
the books within 10 days.
3. Faculty members will
return the borrowed books
before going on
deputation/vacation and
extraordinary leave
exceeding twenty days.
4. Users will be issued the
reference books,
periodicals, syllabus,
question papers, project
reports and dissertations on
I-Cards, for using these
books within the library
premises only and no one
should insist for home
lending.
5. Borrowers must satisfy
themselves about the
physical condition of books
before borrowing.
6. Readers should come
personally to the library
for receiving the books
issued. No books shall be
issued to any other person
on their reader’s card.
7. No renewal of the books
will be done.
RESERVATION OF BOOKS
1. Reservation of books may
be done. And when the
library receives the
particular book, the person
who reserves it will be
called and the book will be
issued to him.
2. Reservation is valid only
for two days from the date
of return.
LIBRARY FINE
Borrowers are responsible to
return their books on or
before the due date. Rupee
one will be charged as
library fine per book per
day including Sundays and
holidays. If the 10th is a
holiday, the book should be
returned prior to it.
LOSS OF BOOKS
1. In case the book is lost,
borrower should inform the
librarian in writing to
initiate action to recover
the cost and overdue
charges.
2. The borrower shall have
to replace the same or 5
times of the cost of book.
3. If the cost of the book
is less than Rs. 100/- then
the borrower has to pay
minimum of Rs. 500.
4. No photocopy will be
accepted as replacement of
the book.
5. For the smooth
functioning of the library,
Principal and Librarian hold
the power to suspend the use
of library to a reader or
deny the use of the library,
found neglecting to comply
with any of these rules or
not cooperating with the
library staff.
LOSS OF I-CARD
Duplicate I-Card will be
issued from office after
receiving written
application with a charge of
Rs.10/-. |
